FAQs
What is the Elgato Prompter?
It combines a built-in display with beam-splitter glass in front of your camera. This guide uses manufacturer documentation checked September 4, 2026; it is not a hands-on test. The Specs & compatibility button links to Elgato’s current details.
Why do creators choose the Elgato Prompter instead of a basic tablet teleprompter?
Choose the built-in screen when your phone or tablet is already busy, or when you want computer windows near the lens. Keep a basic tablet prompter if it reads clearly and fits your workflow; the extra hardware may add little value.
Is it easy to set up?
Plan for a stable mount, a USB 3.0 data connection and Elgato’s supported software. On Mac, DisplayLink is required. Check the current operating-system and camera compatibility before buying. iPhone and iPad cannot drive the Prompter display.
Does it work for live streaming and recording?
It can show scripts or a computer window while your camera records or streams. It does not replace a camera, microphone or capture device. Rehearse your text size and scroll speed before a live show.
What kind of creator is it best for?
Consider it for a fixed desk setup with recurring scripted intros, lessons or presentations. Skip it for an iPad-only workflow, an incompatible camera, or a lightweight travel kit where another screen and mount add too much bulk.
Is it good for YouTube intros, sponsor reads, and calls-to-action?
Those are useful candidates for a short rehearsal. Draft a 30-second script and test whether reading near the lens improves your delivery. Automatic Voice Sync has additional hardware requirements; basic prompting does not guarantee natural delivery.
